A note from Jacqualine Haller:
In the summer of 2019, my father was diagnosed with ALS – amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). This is a very progressive disease that gradually paralyzes the body, as the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord no longer communicate with muscles to move.
There is no cure for ALS, and approximately 80% of people die within 2 years of the diagnosis.
Most of you know that I moved to Toronto 13 years ago from western Canada, where my family and friends currently live. The incredible students and teachers of Jaya Yoga Toronto have become my community and family, since I opened the studio almost 10 years ago in 2011. I have openly shared this personal news with many of our regular students, and have appreciated the compassion and understanding from everyone.
His diagnosis has been extemely heartbreaking for my family, and for me personally. I have always been close to him.
No disease is easy to deal with, and when it hits home, it can be exceptionally hard. I know many of you can empathize.
My father is an exceptional man, and too young for this. He has been the best dad a daughter could ask for, and is the most kind-hearted person you will ever meet. I have been very lucky to have him as my father in this lifetime, and it has broken my heart to watch this disease take over.
Since we had to temporarily close the studio, I have been using this time to educate myself further on ALS and to see if there are alternative therapies available that could slow down the speed of which it moves. As his daughter, I am refusing to accept this diagnosis without at least trying to get him some of these treatments.
A few years ago, I started to write a book about my 21 year corporate background, what brought me to yoga in the first place, my training in India, creating the Jaya Meditation Method and the inspiration for The AUM Project.
When Covid happened and we had to temporarily close, I decided to use the time to finish the book on behalf of my father, not only so he would be alive to read it, but to use the proceeds to explore the alternative treatments I have found for him. There are new advanced developments happening in this field, but they are not available in Canada and they are at the expense of the family.
My book is not only dedicated to my amazing dad, but to my incredible step-mother, who has been his exceptional caregiver during this time. The proceeds of the sales will be going to explore these new treatments for him. While we understand there is no cure for ALS at the moment, there are therapies that may slow down the process of degeneration.
Simply put, we just want a little more time with him.
My book will be released SUMMER 2020, and will be available for purchase WORLDWIDE on Amazon.
You are welcome to pre-order your copy for pick up at Jaya Yoga Toronto or delivery, once it have been released.
I would like to thank you in advance, and I hope you love the book as much as I have loved writing it.
